Abstract

This report contains a summary of the results of the Census of Agriculture for the Republic of South Africa undertaken in respect of 1983. This report covers all commercial farming units in South Africa, excluding those in the former TBVC states and the self-governing territories. The farmers were requested to provide information regarding both production and financial activities. This report gives a breakdown of principal agricultural statistics such as the number of farming units, employment, salaries and wages, gross income, expenditure and debt according to the nine provinces.
