Agricultural Risk

Unpredictable abiotic stresses like excess precipitation or drought, biotic stresses like pests and disease, and market stresses like crop prices make agriculture inherently risky. These risks vary widely geographically, as well as over time, and play a crucial role in determining what is produced, how it is produced and where it is produced. Understanding how policies like public investments in R&D and infrastructure, and emerging technologies like insecticidal and drought resistant crops affect agricultural productivity and risk is of key interest and continuing research at InSTePP.
